Viable explosive made safe in Meath

The Army Bomb Disposal Team have made safe a viable improvised explosive device in Ashbourne Co Meath.

It was found near a vehicle at a private residence close to the Dublin Road in the early hours of this morning.

The device was removed to a safe military location for further forensic exploitation and technical examination after which it was confirmed as being viable.

No controlled explosion was carried out and the scene was declared safe at 2.20am.

The components have now been handed over to the Gardaí.

Further examinations of the viable device are taking place.
