An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a viable grenade along with explosive components and replica weapons in Dublin this evening.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team to Distillery Loft Apts, Distillery Rd, Drumcondra following a request from the Gardaí.

The team arrived on scene at 3.30pm and made safe the grenade and components which were found in the outbuilding of the apartment block. No controlled explosion was carried out.

The replica weapons have been handed over to gardaí, the explosive components and grenade have been removed to a safe military location for forensic exploitation after which they will be handed over to gardaí.

The scene was declared safe at 6pm and the team returned to base.

This is the 16th call out of a Bomb Disposal Team this year and the fifth involving viable IEDs.
