Duo accused of IRA membership refused bail
The Special Criminal Court today refused bail to a Dublin man facing a firearms and IRA membership charge.
The court refused to grant bail to Dermot Gannon (aged 45), of Wellview Crescent, Mulhuddart after hearing evidence from Chief Superintendent David Sheehan, Henry St., Limerick, that he believed Gannon would commit further serious offences if given bail.
Gannon and another Dublin man were charged last week after they were arrested in Limerick.
Robert Nolan (aged 44) of Elmdale Park, Ballyfermot and Dermot Gannon (aged 45) were both charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State, namely the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA on January 11, 2012.
Gannon, is also charged with the unlawful possession of a Webley revolver at Beechgrove Avenue, Ballinacura Weston, Limerick on the same date.
The court fixed bail terms for Nolan on his own bond of €100, an independent surety of €10,000, and ordered him to sign on daily at a garda station, to observe a curfew and not to apply for a passport.
Both men were remanded in custody, Nolan with consent to bail, until March 2, next.
