Gardaí appeal for witnesses to Athlone brawl

An investigation has today been launched into a brawl in Athlone which left a man in his 20s with serious facial injuries.

Around 10 people became embroiled in the fracas near Athlone IT on the Dublin road at about 1am last night.

A weapon was used to injure the victim. It is not yet known what type of object it was.

The victim is being treated for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries at University Hospital Galway.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
