Gardaí have launched an investigation after the death of a man in Limerick overnight.

Gardaí have launched an investigation after the death of a man in Limerick overnight.

The man, in his 40's, was found with stab wounds at about 12.30am.

It is understood the ambulance service alerted Gardaí after the man was found on steps outside a house on Lenehan avenue in the city.

He was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital, and a post mortem will be carried out on his remains later.

The area where he was found has been sealed off and a team from the Garda Technical Bureau is expected to carry out a forensic examination of the scene.
