An expert report into the proposed North-South interconnector has found that the option of cabling underground is too expensive.

The proposed interconnector would feed electricity from North to South and is viewed as essential in containing energy prices.

Residents in the Meath and Tyrone area, where the project is planned for, want it routed underground.

However, the Expert Commission Review has put the cost of that at a "minimum" of €33m and takes the view that sum is too expensive.
