Man seriously injured in Waterford assault

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being assaulted in Waterford in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The incident happened on Wellington Street in the city.

The man in his mid-40s was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for treatment.

Another man in his mid-40s was arrested for questioning in connection with the incident.

He was released without charge from custody last night, and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
