Community supports family after 'horrific ordeal' of son's violent death in Mullingar
Investigations are continuing after 20-year-old student Andrew Dolan died last night, after he was assaulted in Co Westmeath two days before Christmas.
Andrew, from Carrick-on-Shannon in Co Leitrim, was attacked in Mullingar in the early hours of December 23 after he left a friend's 21st birthday party.
Carrick-on-Shannon councillor Gerry Reynolds said locals in Carrick-on-Shannon were rallying around the relatives of the victim.
"The family are just totally and utterly devatstaed," he said. "I know that people in Carrick-on-Shannon and the greater area will be there to help the Dolan family through this horrific, horrific ordeal."
Two men in their 20s and a teenage girl were arrested in connection with the incident. They have since been released without charge and files are being prepared for the DPP.
Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses who may have been in the area on December 23 between 2am and 3am to come forward.
