Ireland takes over EU conflict-prevention helm
Ireland has taken over the chairmanship of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
The OSCE is the primary instrument for early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation in Europe, Central Asia and North America.
The Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said he would seek to address protracted conflicts, promote internet freedom and strengthen cooperation between the 56 OSCE participating States.
Mr Gilmore said Ireland would draw on its experience to promote conflict resolution.
The Tánaiste will present Ireland's plans and priorities for its OSCE chairmanship to the Permanent Council in Vienna on January 12.
