Man critical after serious assault in Mullingar

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was seriously assaulted in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, on Friday.

Gardaí in Mullingar are appealling for witnesses to the assault on Pearse Street, Mullingar at 2.40am on Friday, December 23.

The man, aged 20, wasremoved to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin and is in a critical condition.

Two men, aged 21 and 20, and 19-year-old woman were arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Mullingar and have since been released without charge.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
