The body of UCC student Caolan Mulrooney has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem examination will take place tomorrow.

The 19-year-old, first-year UCC engineering student from Rochestown had been missing since the early hours of Friday morning. He had left the city's Cubin's nightclub shortly after 1am on Friday.

Caolan was last seen alive on CCTV footage captured by cameras at 1.20am on the city's Dean Street, off Barrack Street.

A huge search operation was mounted after his disappearance, involving up to 200 people and coordinated by local gardaí.

This morning, his body was found in a yard at Blue Anchor Lane off Douglas Street in Cork.

Eoin English of the Irish Examiner said the body was discovered just after 10am by a businessman in the area, who alerted gardaí.

Members of a divisional search team who were in the area responded immediately and the area was sealed off.

A forensic examination of the scene was then conducted in advance of the post mortem tomorrow.
