Directors welcome Govt's 'commitment to job creation'

The Institute of Directors in Ireland (IoD) has welcomed the Government’s "commitment to job creation" in the first part of Budget 2012 announced by Minister Brendan Howlin today.

The institute welcomed the Government's "Action Plan for Jobs" and the introduction of a €20m Labour Market Activation Fund, designed to create 6,500 work places for the long-term unemployed in 2012.

Maura Quinn, Chief Executive of Institute of Directors in Ireland, said: "Addressing unemployment, especially long-term unemployment, is vital to the recovery of the domestic economy. Tax revenues have fallen by one-third in just three years and so it is crucial that the Government take steps to support job creation and tackle unemployment.

"The provision of education and training for those on the live register to up-skill and re-skill to meet skills shortages in emerging sectors is also to be welcomed.2
