Dublin man who shot victim 11 times handed life sentence

A 30-year-old Dublin man has been jailed for life today for murdering a man, after shooting him 11 times in a Clontarf apartment building.

Michael Taylor of Summerhill was on bail when he killed Paul Kelly on April 6, 2007 at Winston Ville apartments on Charlemont Road.

Michael Taylor was one of two masked men who gunned down 26-year-old Paul Kelly and left his body slumped on the floor inside the entrance to Winston Ville apartments in Clontarf.

The court heard his killing was part of a long standing minor feud that escalated into murder and last June claimed the life of the accused's father who was shot in Donabate.

In a victim impact statement, Paul Kelly's mother Bernie said: "I'm in remission from cancer I've waited all this time to get justice, now that I have I pray God will take me to my baby'."

Taylor has past convictions for theft and drugs. He was on bail at the time of the murder and is serving a 13-year sentence.

Judge Barry White handed down the mandatory life penalty today.
