Study shows cap on college places could address funding problem - report
The number of college places could be capped to address the funding crisis in the sector, if third-level fees are not increased, according to a report this morning.
The Sunday Independent reports that a new Government study found that the funding crisis in the sector can only be addressed by a return to fees - or the limitation of new entrants.
This is despite a campaign by the Union of Students in Ireland who say that an increases in fees or cuts to grants would be a "death sentence for education".
The matter is likely to be discussed by the Higher Education Authority on Tuesday.
