A man who was being questioned by Gardaí in Dublin in connection with an assault on a taxi driver has been released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

It follows a serious assault on a Nigerian taxi driver on Pearse St in Dublin City Centre in the early hours of Monday morning.

The 41-year-old man was taken to St James's hospital and later transferred to Beaumont, where he remains in a serious condition.
