Group to protest hospital closure in Abbeyleix
A protest will take place in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois, later today in opposition to the HSE's plan to close the district hospital in the town.
Last week, the Health Minister, Dr James Reilly said that the 28 long-term residents would be moved to another facility and respite services would be privatised.
HSE management has asked to hold meetings with the families of those effected, to discuss their options.
However, the Abbeyleix and District Hospital Committee, who have organised today's protest, say all this change is unnecessary and distressing for the patients and their families.
