O'Donoghue settles libel case over coverage of Robert Holohan case

The man convicted of killing east Cork boy Robert Holohan, Wayne O'Donoghue, has settled libel actions against the Sunday World and the Evening Herald.

A legal representative for the newspapers this afternoon read out an acknowledgment in the High Court that there was no evidence that semen found on the body of Robert Holohan was that of Wayne O'Donoghue.

The 27-year old served three years in prison for the manslaughter of his 11-year-old neighbour. He sued the newspapers over coverage of his sentencing hearing in 2006.

Speaking outside court, his solicitor Frank Buttimer welcomed the undisclosed settlement.

"He's pleased that there has been an acknowledgement in court that the material which was published has been accepted as being inaccurate," he said.
