Two due in court in connection with Bandon death
Two people are due before a special sitting of Bandon District Court in Cork this evening in connection with the death of a man whose body was pulled from the River Bandon on Sunday.
A man and a woman who are both in their thirties were arrested by gardaí investigating the murder of 27-year-old Jonathan Duke.
A post mortem revealed that the father of one died in violent circumstances.
Gardaí investigating his death also recovered a second body from the river just outside the town today.
The remains have yet to be identified, but are believed to be those of an Englishman in his late 30s or early 40s who has been missing since Saturday.
He lived in the same apartment complex as Jonathan Duke.
It is understood a number of people had been drinking in a flat near Bandon Bridge over the weekend.
The two people who have been arrested in connection with the death of out-of-work labourer Mr Duke on Sunday night are a man from Eastern Europe and a woman from Cork.
Mayor of Bandon Sean O'Donovan told Cork's Red FM that the community is stunned by what has happened.
"Everybody's in shock. Obviously, it's the topic of conversation in town," he said.
"Jonathan Duke would have been well-known to probably everybody in Bandon. His mother, a personal friend of mine, lives in the town, and is well-respected…It's a tragedy."
