Man rescued from Lugnaquillia mountain

A man in his 60s has been rescued by emergency teams after he got into difficulty this afternoon on Lugnaquillia mountain in Co Wicklow.

The incident happened at around 1pm today when the walker experienced chest pains and weakness. He was taken from the mountain at about 2pm.

The Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin/Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team responded to the alert, and made the man comfortable.

The Irish Coastguard helicopter was winched him aboard and transferred him to Tallaght Hospital for further treatment.

Spokesperson for the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Hugh McLindon said the man was walking up the mountain when he felt an "overwhelming weakness and had a chest pain, so he called for help".

"We were worried he was having a heart attack, but it appears he had a previous injury and was probably just suffering a recurrance (of that)."
