Labour's Pat Nulty has topped the poll in the first count of the Dublin West by-election.

With the quota at 17,852, Mr Nulty came home with 8,665 followed by Fianna Fáil David McGuinness on 7,742, Ruth Coppinger of the Socialist Party on 7,542 and Fine Gael's Eithne Loftus on 5,263.

The election is being held to fill the seat of the late Brian Lenihan.
