In the dying hours of campaigning in the race for the Aras, independent candidate Seán Gallagher has apologised for what he calls "any confusion" in relation to his links with Fianna Fáil.

He has once again hit out at Sinn Féin candidate Martin McGuinness, saying he used a television debate earlier this week to launch a classic "political ambush" on him in an effort to muddy the waters before the people go to the polls.
