Elderfield to put pressure on banks over variable mortgage rates

The deputy head of the Central Bank, Matthew Elderfield, is to clamp down on banks targeting homeowners with variable rate mortgages.

Mr Elderfield wants to stop the banks from hitting those struggling with their debt with rate hikes.
