New scheme to tell Dublin passengers when next bus is due

Bus passengers across the Dublin region will now able to check the actual arrival time of their bus using a new website, text service, and iPhone app launched today.

The National Transport Authority and Dublin City Council initiative will go live today across all 5,000 Dublin Bus stops.

All stops in Dublin have a unique identification number, clearly visible, which passengers use to check their own bus stop by website, phone or text to know in real time when their bus is due to arrive at that stop.

The bus arrival information service can be accessed at either TransportforIreland.ie or dublinbus.ie/rtpi. The Transport for Ireland website will also provide real time passenger information for Bus Éireann, Luas and other transport operators in the months ahead.

“The real time website and mobile app and text service offer bus passengers greater convenience, reliability and quality of service with up to the minute information on how far away your bus is from any stop in Dublin, " said Public Transport Minister Alan Kelly, launching the service.

"This is an excellent use of technology which encourages public transport usage in everyone’s daily travel choices and makes for a more sustainable way for people to get around."
