An American tourist missing from the coast of Donegal for the past few days has been found alive.

The alarm was raised on Sunday afternoon when it emerged that 41-year-old Kelly Jones, from South Carolina, had not returned to the Glencolmcille hostel where she was staying.

A major search and rescue operation has been ongoing since then, including the Coastguard, Gardaí and Donegal Mountain Rescue.

This afternoon however Ms. Jones, who is an experienced hillwalker, was found in an abandoned ruin called the Old Rectory in Glencolmcille.

It is not clear what her condition is but she has been airlifted to Sligo General Hospital.
