SF confirms McGuinness to run for President, after ratification

Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness is to run for the office of President of Ireland, the party confirmed tonight.

Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness is to run for the office of President of Ireland, the party confirmed tonight.

The move has been approved by the party's officer board and is expected to be ratified at a meeting of the party's Ard Comhairle on Sunday.

The 61-year-old from Derry will return from the US tomorrow after an official trip there with Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson.
