The Health Minister, Dr James Reilly, is dismissing reports that the Director of the National Office for Suicide Prevention quit his post due to a lack of resources.

The Health Minister, Dr James Reilly, is dismissing reports that the Director of the National Office for Suicide Prevention quit his post due to a lack of resources.

Geoff Day is retiring early from his role later this month to pursue further study.

In August, he expressed "concern and frustration" at having a vacant key administrative post in his office for around eight months.

However Dr Reilly, who was speaking at the Console Suicide Prevention conference in Dublin, said Mr Day had "fully intended to leave in January to do a masters degree in Trinity College".
