The Department of Foreign Affairs is advising Irish citizens travelling to or living in coastal areas of the east coast of the US from the Carolinas to New England to exercise caution.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is advising Irish citizens travelling to or living in coastal areas of the east coast of the US from the Carolinas to New England to exercise caution.

It said in a statement, it warned that people who live permanently or seasonally in areas likely to be in the path of Hurricane Irene should monitor local news and weather reports and follow the advice of local authorities.

Whilst visitors should contact their travel agent or tour operator as the deteriorating weather conditions are likely to lead to significant travel disruption.
