8,000 complete Lough Derg pilgrimage

There has been a rise in the number of people completing the three-day pilgrimage to Lough Derg in Co Donegal.

Eight thousand people have travelled to the site so far this year, an increase of 1.5% on last year.

This weekend marks the final opportunity for pilgrims to complete the gruelling weekend, which involves three days of fasting, prayer and an overnight vigil.
