Survey: Most would save important files in event of fire

A new survey shows sentiment takes a back seat to practicality when it comes to our most treasured belongings.

The poll carried out by AA Home Insurance reveals that 35%t of people would hope to recover their household files, such as birth certs, wills and property deeds, in the event of a fire.

The second most popular item to take out of a burning building would be a wallet, purse or handbag.

Up to 15% chose their laptop, Smartphone or other electronic device, with more men choosing to do so than women.

In a lower than anticipated fourth place, just 12.4% said they would choose a photograph, photo album or home movie.

More women than men said they would opt to salvage an item of jewellery in the event of a fire in their home.
