Nurses at Naas General Hospital in Co. Kildare have voted in favour of industrial action by a margin of 86%.

The ballot was organised by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation in response to chronic overcrowding there, which the union has said is endangering patients.

Action is likely, initially, to take the form of rolling protests, and will begin in September.

Derek Reilly, Industrial Relations Officer with the INMO, has said he is now seeking a meeting with Naas General Management.
