Explosives recovered in organised crime investigation
The Organised Crime Unit at the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation have arrested three men and recovered an explosive device and ammunition, it was revealed today.
At approx 11.20pm last night, members from the Emergency Response Unit stopped and searched two vehicles at Ballyfermot Road, Dublin 10.
During the course of the search a suspicious device was recovered.
The Army E.O.D team attended the scene and the device, which was deemed to be viable, was made safe and removed for further examination.
Two men aged in their late 20s and early 30s were arrested at the scene. They are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act 1939, at Ballyfermot garda station.
In a follow-up operation, a house in the Wheatfield area was searched. During the search, gardaí recovered a large quantity of ammunition and man aged in his late 20s was arrested.
He is currently detained at Ronanstown garda station under Section 30 of the
Offences against the State Act, 1939.
The arrests come as part of an ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity.
