Cliffs of Moher visitor centre staff to strike
Staff at the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre in Co Clare are to go on strike today in a row over pay.
However, the company operating the faculty insists the country's biggest tourist attraction is still open for business and a contingency plan has been put in place.
Up to 50 SIPTU members say their pay should be in line with other members of Clare County Council, as the company is a subsidiary of the local council.
"The gap between us is a few thousand per annum, per head," said Tony Kenny, industrial organiser for SIPTU.
"The workers that we are representing are currently on wages of around €20,000 - local authority workers on the lower end of the scale would be on around €26,000.
"But we all have to bear in mind that the average industrial wage is in the low thirties - so in essence we are talking about lower-paid workers."
Mr Kenny is calling on the company to go back to the talks table at the Labour Court.
