Irish men and women who lost their lives in battle are being commemorated today.

Irish men and women who lost their lives in battle are being commemorated today.

Ceremonies are taking place in Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Sligo, Galway, Kilkenny and Waterford this morning.

President Mary McAleese and the Taoiseach Enda Kenny are attending a ceremony at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin.

Representatives from the Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and Islamic communities are among those conducting the multi-faith commemoration.

President McAleese will lay a wreath on behalf of the Irish people after the mass.
