Suspected €1.5m fraud at Gorey post office
Gardaí in Wexford have launched an investigation into claims of suspected €1.5m fraud at a post office in Gorey.
It is understood that An Post alerted Gardaí to the misappropriation of funds, after the discrepancy was discovered during an internal audit earlier this week.
While detectives were concerned about the welfare of a staff member, who had not been seen for several days, it is understood he is no longer missing.
No arrests have been made.
Officers from the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation are expected to interview staff at the post office this week as part of the inquiry.
In a statement, An Post said that Gorey Post Office remains open for business and that the investigation will not impact in any way on customers.
