Taoiseach confirms cut in Roscommon A&E cover

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has confirmed that the Accident and Emergency Department at Roscommon Hospital will close at night and at weekends from July 11.

The move is being put down to the upcoming shortage of junior doctors for Roscommon and concerns by HIQA over patient safety going forward.

The Taoiseach has said that the A&E will not continue as it has done on a 24-hour 7-day a week service.

Mr Kenny said: "I can tell you that after the 11th of July, your Accident and Emergency unit will not continue as it has been in the past. You will not have 24-hour cover in the way that you have had.

"You are going to have a very different form of cover for the future."
