Residents to protest planned Dublin Bus cuts
A major protest against planned cuts to Dublin Bus services gets underway in an hour's time.
Demonstrators will hand in a petition against proposals to axe some 200 Dublin Bus services across the city, to the company's Head Office on O'Connell Street.
Campaigners say that the cuts will affect the most vulnerable in our society.
"Dublin Bus’ new network direct plan is supposedly to make services more direct, which means that they’ll go on the main thoroughfares and avoid side streets," said Nicola Curry from the Save Our Bus Services campaign.
"That, in effect, means that large housing estates will miss out on having a bus service, and for some people with mobility issues, or with buggies and small children, they’re now going to have extra journey time on foot to make it to a main street where they can pick up the service."
