Doran warns of further 'chaos' in health service

A health sector union is warning of chaos in the hospital system within days; the second such warning in 24 hours.

The warning comes as the HSE denies persistent reports that Loughlinstown Hospital in Dublin is to cease providing A&E services by the end of this year.

The HSE is adamant that no date has been set for the cessation of Accident and Emergency provision at Loughlinstown.

However, Liam Doran of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has said he sees services at many more hospitals across the country being withdrawn.

"The issue, about Loughlinstown, is the tip of the iceberg," Mr Doran said.

"I cannot overemphasise the dilemma that faces the health service within a matter of days based upon the shortage of junior hospital doctors, and the ever increasing level of demand.

"We are going to have the curtailment or cessation of some services in a matter of days."
