Govt to benefit 160,000 families with school allowance

The Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton said €82m has been made available this year to help eligible families meet the cost of school clothing and footwear.

Up to €200 will be available for eligible children aged two to 11 with €305 for students aged 12 to 22.

The Minister said 80% of customers who were entitled to the allowance in 2011 will automatically receive the allowance with payments to be made from the end of June.
