Consumers advised on travel insurance

The National Consumer Agency has issued guidelines for consumers who are buying travel insurance.

The agency said the latest figures from the Financial Services Ombudsman show over 300 complaints were made about travel insurance last year.

The NCA is advising consumers to check their existing policies before buying as they might already be covered.

They also say it is important to know what you are covered for, especially if you have a pre-existing medical condition.

The NCA said you should also bring a copy of your policy with you when you travel and report any losses or claims within 24 hours.
