Man held in connection with fatal assault

Gardaí in Cavan have arrested an 18-year-old male in connection with a serious assault last September which resulted in the death of a 73-year-old man.

The suspect is currently detained at Ballyconnell Garda Station and will appear before a special sitting of Ballyconnell District Court at 10.30am tomorrow.

The elderly man was discovered injured at his home in Nedd, Doogary, Killeshandra, Co. Cavan on the morning of September 7 last and was brought to Cavan General Hospital, where he died on October 6.

A man arrested on September 11 last in connection with the assault was later released without charge.
