Burton: Bonus move shows 'great leadership'

Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has said that top earners at key State agencies who are giving up their bonuses are demonstrating great leadership.

Minister Burton was responding to reports today that chief executives at the National Treasury Management Agency, NAMA and the National Development Finance Agency are waiving their right to bonus payments, saving around €850,000.

The decision is being put down to concerns arising from the broader economic challenges facing the country.

Minister Burton has welcomed the move and says she hopes other high earners will make a similar gesture in future.
