Fire hits ancestral home of US president Arthur

The ancestral home of the 21st US President has been damaged in a fire.

A blaze broke out in Arthur Cottage in Cullybackey, Co Antrim last night around 8.20pm.

It was the ancestral home of Chester Alan Arthur, who served in office between 1881 and 1885, and has now been turned into a tourist attraction.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland is investigating the cause of the fire.

There was nobody in the property at the time.

It is understood the interpretive centre linked with the cottage remains intact.
