The number of overseas visitors to Ireland increased by 8.6% in the first three months of the year, compared with the same period last year.

New CSO figures show that 1.17 million people had a holiday in the Emerald Isle between January and March.

That is a rise of 92,800 tourists compared to the same period last year.

Irish people took fewer overseas trips as the number is down 11.7% on last year, at just 1.27 million.
