'The most honest politician we've ever seen'
"I think he was the most honest politican we've ever seen…I don't think we'll ever see the likes of him again," said one man who paid his respects to the late Dr Garret FitzGerald today.
His comment reflected the general mood as members of the public signed books of condolence in Dublin and Cork today.
Additional books of condolence have had to be opened in the Mansion House in Dublin to cater for the large crowds who wish to offer their sympathies to Dr FitzGerald's family.
Hundreds of people have gathered to sign the books of condolence for the former Taoiseach, who died on Thursday aged 85, after a sort illness.
The Lord Mayor of Dublin Councillor Gerry Breen said extra books have had to be opened to cater for the large crowds that want to pay their respects.
Dr Fitzgerald's remains lie in repose at the Mansion House until 7pm today.
His body will then be taken to the Sacred Heart Church in Donnybrook this evening for 8pm, where the public will again have an opportunity to pay their respects until 10pm tonight.
His state funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2.30pm, followed by burial at Shanganagh Cemetery.
