High Court to rule on Anglo investigation today

The High Court will rule today whether to grant more time to an investigation into Anglo Irish Bank.

The probe conducted by members of the Garda Fraud Squad and the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement (ODCE) was launched nearly 2½ years ago.

The investigation began in February 2009 with the seizure of millions of documents.

It is examining a number of issues including loans to a former Anglo director and a deposit arrangement between the bank and Irish Life and Permanent in September 2008.

Last week, lawyers for the ODCE informed the court that the investigation had been hit by further delays, and that dozens of interviews have yet to be conducted.

It also heard that some witnesses have proved unco-operative.

Mr Justice Peter Kelly expressed dissatisfaction at the request for more time as the investigation was to have been completed by now, but he will decide today whether to allow it.
