Dublin man jailed for four years for Phibsboro bank raid

A Dublin man has been jailed for four years for his role in a €300,000 robbery on Permanent TSB.

Thirty-year-old Tony Quinn of Park View, Park Close pleaded guilty to the theft at the branch in Phibsboro on September 22, 2009.

Tony Quinn is the only person to come before the courts as part of this on-going investigation.

He was described by his own barrister as something of a comical figure, and was out of breath and sweating when caught red-handed by gardaí holding a bag containing €318,000 worth of cash.

A drug user, the 30-year-old became involved in the Permanent TSB robbery to pay off a drug debt and agreed to pick up the money.

The cash was thrown onto the railway track at Broombridge by a terrified bank employee, who had been falsely given the impression that a tiger-kidnapping had taken place.
