INTO rejects call for industrial action
Primary teachers meeting in Sligo have rejected a call for immediate industrial action against education cutbacks in schools.
Delegates at the INTO annual conference condemned the decision to cut 700 primary teaching posts from next September.
They were also critical of the proposal to abolish 500 English language posts within four years but opposed industrial action as a means of reversing these decisions.
The incoming president of the INTO Noreen Flynn said delegates had to consider the Croke Park Agreement which precludes industrial action.
