A 23-year-old Irish woman who drowned while scuba diving in Australia has been named as Elaine Morrow, from Ballintra in Co Donegal.

A 23-year-old Irish woman who drowned while scuba diving in Australia has been named as Elaine Morrow, from Ballintra in Co Donegal.

She was on a three-day introductory diving course on the picturesque Whitsunday Islands when she got separated from the group on Monday.

It is understood Elaine had been in Australia for almost a year on a tourist visa.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the young woman's family.
