Man arrested in connection with post office robbery
Gardaí in Dublin have arrested a man in his early 30s in connection with the robbery of a post office in Rathmines this afternoon.
At around 1.30pm a man on his own entered the post office on the Upper Rathmines Road, wearing a cap and sunglasses, and armed with what appeared to be a firearm.
He threatened staff and then escaped with a sum of money, before getting into a taxi and threatening the driver, forcing him to drive.
Gardaí responding to the call observed the taxi and stopped it at Leicester Avenue a short time later.
The man was arrested, the sum of money was recovered, and he is currently being detained at Rathmines garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
