House door blown off in Dublin bomb attack

The front door of a house was blown off its hinges in a suspected pipe bomb attack, it has emerged today.

The porch of the home in Clondalkin, west Dublin was destroyed in the blast late last night.

The outdoor sliding glass doors were completely shattered and shards of glass shot into the garden and across Shancastle Road.

The door was blown 10ft into the garden.

The inside wooden front door was shredded by the force of the blast and holes were blown in the hallway walls and plasterwork.

The attack took place at about 10.15pm last night.

A Defence Forces spokesman said the bomb squad carried out a post-blast analysis of the scene, which was declared safe at about midnight.

It is understood there were five people in the home at the time but no-one was injured.

A Garda forensic team was examining the scene and the Defences Forces bomb disposal unit has remained on hand to support the investigation.

The bomb squad has been deployed 60 times this year.
